How Much Does a Website Cost in India?

A straight answer on website pricing in India: what changes the cost, what the ranges usually look like, and where cheap quotes hide their money.

Websites

A business website in India typically costs anywhere from ₹15,000 for a basic template site to several lakh for a custom build with complex functionality. That range is wide because “a website” describes very different things, and the honest answer is that the price depends almost entirely on three factors.

The three things that decide the price

1. How many pages, and how custom

A five-page site built on an existing template is a fundamentally different job from a twenty-page site designed from scratch around your brand. Templates are cheaper and faster. Custom design costs more and takes longer, but it will not look like three other businesses in your city.

2. What has to be built behind it

A site that presents information is straightforward. A site that takes payments, manages bookings, handles inventory, or connects to software you already use is a different order of work. Most of the cost difference between quotes comes from here.

3. Who is doing the work

A freelancer, a small studio and a large agency price differently, and all three can be the right choice depending on what you need. What matters is that you know which one you are buying.

What a cheap quote usually leaves out

If one quote is dramatically lower than the others, it is worth asking what is not included. Common omissions:

  • Content. Many quotes assume you supply all text and images. Writing them is real work.
  • Mobile optimisation. “Responsive” should mean tested on real phones, not just shrinking on a desktop browser.
  • Basic SEO groundwork. Page titles, descriptions, speed and structure. Retrofitting these later costs more.
  • Revisions. Check how many rounds of changes are included.
  • Handover. The domain and hosting should end up in your name, with logins given to you.

What to ask before you commit

  • What exactly is included, written down?
  • Who owns the domain, the hosting and the finished site?
  • Will I be able to edit the content myself afterwards?
  • How many revision rounds are included?
  • What happens after launch if something breaks?

A reasonable way to think about budget

Rather than asking what a website costs, ask what it needs to earn. If one new customer is worth ₹50,000 to you, a website that brings two extra customers a year has paid for itself several times over. That reframing usually makes the decision easier than comparing quotes line by line.
